Liquid Glass - iOS

On iOS 26 and later, the SDK can render Liquid Glass behind its player and widget controls. Glass is off by default. You turn it on with one global flag, then adjust individual elements if you need to.

Below iOS 26, none of these settings have any effect, and controls keep their regular look.

Turn on Liquid Glass

Blaze.shared.isLiquidGlassEnabled = true

The SDK reads this value when a player or widget style is applied, so set it before you apply styles, for example right after initializing the SDK and before creating widgets or opening players. Changing it later takes effect the next time a style is applied.

What the flag covers

With the flag on, glass appears behind the default controls that already have a translucent background:

WhereElements
Videos playerPlay/pause, replay, previous, next, seek forward, seek backward, and the back-to-live badge
Moments playerShare, like, captions, seek forward, and seek backward
Stories playerNone
WidgetsPlay icon and duration element

The same rules apply to the Videos inline player, in both interactive and preview modes.

A few elements follow the flag but have no setting of their own: the 2x speed indicator in the Videos and Moments players, and the Stories player's previous and next buttons that appear with VoiceOver.

CTA buttons, chips (ad, live, and follow), and the Videos status indicator never render glass.

Control individual elements

Every player button, the back-to-live badge, and the widget play icon and duration element have a glassBackground property of type BlazeGlassBackgroundState:

ValueBehavior
.automaticFollows Blaze.shared.isLiquidGlassEnabled. This is the default for the elements listed in What the flag covers.
.onAlways renders glass, whether the flag is on or off.
.offNever renders glass. This is the default for every other button.

The property is available on:

Blaze.shared.isLiquidGlassEnabled = true

var videosStyle = BlazeVideosPlayerStyle.base()
videosStyle.buttons.mute.glassBackground = .on // Add glass to a button that has none by default
videosStyle.buttons.replay.glassBackground = .off // Keep the regular replay button
Blaze.shared.setDefaultVideosPlayerStyle(videosStyle)

How glass looks

  • Buttons whose default icon has a built-in circle switch to a version without the circle, and the glass takes its place.
  • The back-to-live badge and the duration element use their backgroundColor as the glass tint. Buttons use untinted glass.
  • If you set a customImage on a button with .automatic and turn on the flag, the glass renders behind your image. Set that button's glassBackground to .off to keep your image without glass.
