Translate content

Add translations to a content item so viewers see its text in their preferred language. You can enter translations yourself, or generate them with auto-translate and then review them.

For what can be localized and how the SDK picks a language, see Text localization.

Add translations

To add translations:

  1. In the CMS, open the content item and select the Translations tab.
  2. In Languages, select each language you want to support. Each language gets its own card under All languages.
  3. Expand a language card. A language with no saved translation shows Add translation.
  4. Enter the translated text in each field. The original text appears as the placeholder. Title is required. A language isn't active until it has a translated title.
  5. Select Save changes. The language card then shows Translated.

Each field has a character limit:

FieldLimit
Title300
Subtitle300
Description1000
CTA button text18

The fields on each card depend on the content type. See What can be localized.

Translate multiple CTA buttons

When a content item has multiple CTA buttons, the language card doesn't show a CTA field.

To translate multiple CTA buttons:

  1. On the language card, select Translate CTAs to open the content page.
  2. Open the CTA editor and set the translation for each button.

Auto-translate

Auto-translate generates GenAI translations from the Translations tab, without republishing the content. Translation quality varies by language.

To auto-translate a content item:

  1. In the Translations tab, add the languages you want in Languages.
  2. Expand the Auto-translate card.
  3. Choose a mode:
    • Missing translations only (default): fills empty fields only. Existing translations stay untouched.
    • Auto translate all languages: translates every field again and overwrites existing translations.
  4. Optionally, enter guidance in Instructions (optional), for example Use formal tone, avoid slang.
  5. Select Apply.

The translated language cards open with the results, with no page reload. Review each translation and edit it if needed.

To translate a single field, select Auto translate on that field.

Auto-translate uses the default language values as the source. If no default language is set, English is used.

Remove a language

To remove a language:

  1. In Languages, remove the language.
  2. Select Delete to confirm.

Deleting a language permanently removes all of its translated content.
